Outgoing Lebanese Prime Minister Nagib Mikati praised on Sunday the support expressed the previous day for Lebanon by French President Emmanuel Macron, with the announcement of an international support conference expected to be held during the month. In a statement published by the Grand Serail, he thanked the head of the Élysée "who once again expresses his encouragement to Lebanon and stands with the Lebanese people facing adversity."

Last night, at the closing of the International Organization of La Francophonie summit near Paris, the French president also called for a halt to arms deliveries to Israel, which earned him criticism from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. "We renew our support for the joint call for a ceasefire launched (last week) by France and the United States, with the support of the European Union and Arab and foreign countries, and demand that pressure be exerted on Israel to respect the ceasefire and immediately implement resolution 1701," added Mr. Mikati in his statement.
