Strikes on Baath targets in Lebanon: A message to Syria?
On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, the house of the secretary general of the Lebanese branch of the pro-Syrian party in Baalbeck was hit, shortly before an attack which killed another official further north.

On the night of Wednesday to Thursday, Israel bombed the guard post and the house of the secretary general of the Lebanese branch of the Baath (the ruling party in Syria), Ali Hijazi, in the Mhatta neighborhood, at the entrance to the city of Baalbeck. One of the guards was killed and two others were injured. A little later, the Matraba border crossing, near the Syrian city of Homs, inaugurated in 2022, was targeted by Israeli strikes. Seven people were injured, and a member of the Baath, Hassan Sahmarani, was killed. A close friend of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Hijazi is considered "the new face" of the Baath in Lebanon.
