Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, urged the U.N. to intervene to put an end to Israel's "technological war" against the country.
"The U.N. Security Council must take a firm stance against the Israeli aggression against Lebanon, as well as against the technological war Israel is waging against us, causing hundreds of deaths and dozens of injuries," Mikati stated during a meeting with the U.K. ambassador to Lebanon, Hamish Cowell, at the Grand Serail.
Mikati added: "The international community has the primary responsibility to deter Israel." He also stated, "The cabinet must take a firm decision to put an end to the war of extermination that Israel is waging."
These statements follow two days of operations against Hezbollah telecommunications, targeting thousands of beepers on Tuesday and walkie-talkies on Wednesday, which left 37 people dead and over 3,200 wounded.
Mikati received a call on Thursday from French President Emmanuel Macron, who condemned the attack on Lebanon. Macron also urged restraint to avoid escalation, according to a statement from the Grand Serail.
Mikati thanked Macron for France's "continued support for Lebanon" and called for a "firm stance on Israeli hostilities" during the U.N. Security Council meeting scheduled for Friday.
Macron also spoke with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, who described Israel’s operations against Hezbollah's telecommunications as a "war crime" and reiterated his call for international "pressure on Israel" to enforce a cease-fire in Gaza and Lebanon "before it is too late."
