The municipality of Kfar Shima announced in a press release that it organized the funeral for the five members of Habib al-Fata's family on Aug. 26, after their remains were discovered in a local basement 13 days earlier.
The burial took place in the local cemetery, attended by parish priests and family members, according to the municipality. In mid-August, the municipality cleared the basement of the family home where the bodies were found, with the agreement of local dignitaries, including Wassim al-Raji, president of the municipal council, local mukhtars, and the heads of the Saint-Antoine monastery.
The grim discovery was made in Kfar Shima after neighbors reported a foul odor was emitted from the home, where two family members were still living.
The municipality noted that the case is being handled by the Internal Security Forces (ISF) and that one of the surviving brothers, identified as Ch.F., has fully cooperated with judicial authorities. The police were not immediately available for comment on the investigation's progress.
