Zakaria Nsouli, former minister, former vice-rector of Saint-Joseph University (USJ), and a doctor of law, passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 20. He served as a minister under Amin al-Hafez's government from April to July 1973, during Sleiman Frangieh's presidency, before resigning along with other Sunni figures.
Nsouli was from one of Beirut's prominent families, with a street named after him in the Basta neighborhood. Colleagues described him as a "respected and competent" lawyer. He also contributed articles to L’Orient-Le Jour.
Memorial prayers were held for him at the Basta el-Tahta mosque in Beirut on Thursday, Aug. 22.
