BEIRUT — The Lebanese Internal Security Forces (ISF) announced the arrest of a man for the murder of his friend in early August in Chekka, northern Lebanon.
The incident occurred on Aug. 1, when the 26-year-old victim, F.B.*, accompanied by his 24-year-old friend, A.D.*, went to the Chekka area near the historical tunnel, according to a statement released by the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces - Public Relations Division.
During their time in a remote, uninhabited area, A.D. claimed they were subjected to an attempted robbery by unknown assailants. He also reported that he managed to escape, but F.B. disappeared and could not be located despite a thorough search.
Upon further investigation, the ISF revealed contradictions in A.D.'s testimony.
On the same day, Aug. 1, a body identified as F.B. was found on the rocks near the National Cement Company port.
In a subsequent interrogation, A.D. confessed that an argument had occurred between the two friends "while they were under the influence of drugs." He admitted that he later pushed F.B. off a cliff, causing him to fall into the water and die.
The ISF said they have taken the necessary legal actions against A.D., who has been detained and had his phone seized as part of the ongoing investigation.
