Caretaker Environment Minister Nasser Yassine visited the Saida waste treatment plant, IBC, on Friday with the city's municipal council president, Hazem Badih. The plant, intended to serve Saida and its surroundings, has faced various challenges, including the inability to establish a landfill for inert waste. The tour aimed to discuss the plant's recovery plan to ensure its continued operation under new management. Saida has experienced several waste crises in recent years.
During the visit, a meeting was held at the plant with General Director Ahmad el-Sayed and the new Technical Director Christopher Der Sarkissian. Der Sarkissian provided an overview of the new technologies being implemented as part of the plant's development plan.
Yassine acknowledged the efforts made but noted deficiencies in the development plan that need addressing. He also emphasized the need for specific timelines for the restructuring phases to allow for proper monitoring by the ministry and the municipality.
