Fire erupts in grasslands near Tripoli oil facilities, sparks fears of reaching oil tanks

A fire broke out on Friday in the grasslands around the Tripoli Oil Facilities compound in Beddawi, with flames spreading rapidly due to strong winds, raising concerns that the fire could reach the oil tanks, L'Orient Today's correspondent in the north reported.

Civil Defense teams, along with a fire engine from the Tripoli Oil Facilities, are currently working to extinguish the flames. A helicopter from the Lebanese Army is also expected to intervene to help speed up the firefighting efforts before the fire reaches the nearby oil tanks.

The Red Cross is accompanying the firefighting teams as a precaution against emergencies. The fire has reached the vicinity of one of the old oil tanks and efforts to extinguish it are ongoing.

Fires are a recurring problem in Lebanon, especially during the hot and dry summer months. The combination of drought and high temperatures creates favorable conditions for such fires to spread rapidly. Current environmental and climatic pressures contribute to their increasing frequency and severity.
