BEIRUT — Saudi channel al-Arabiya reported on Saturday thatthe U.S. administration believes the Israelis are "capable of launching a huge attack and cause, within hours, the destruction of the Beirut airport and dozens of buildings in the vicinity of the airport and the southern suburbs," according to "information leaked from the U.S. administration."

According to the report, the region could witness a return to calm and a ceasefire in Gaza and then Lebanon at any moment, but the "behavior of the U.S. administration over the past few hours suggests that it is acting on the basis that an outbreak is very possible."

The channel also said that the U.S. administration "will take specific measures to evacuate Americans," adding that the US has "designated evacuation points first for diplomats through a military base in the Halat area in northern Lebanon."

"The U.S. Navy has designated areas where American boats and ships can approach to evacuate American nationals residing in Lebanon, and that the naval forces, which U.S. officials say are in periodic deployment according to a pre-known schedule, are now working on evacuation plans as has been leaked for some time, despite the U.S. administration's denial of this," al-Arabiya added citing a "reliable source."

There is a "huge discrepancy" in official information about the situation in Lebanon and on the border with Israel as "U.S. officials are working to prevent escalation, while private sources confirm to al-Arabiya that the U.S. administration has real fears of an armed conflict between Israel and Hezbollah and that the U.S. is unable to prevent the conflict."

The U.S. Embassy in Lebanon was not immediately available to comment on the Saudi channel's report.

Hezbollah and Israel have been engaged in daily cross-fire along the Lebanese-Israeli border since Oct. 8, one day after the start of the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. U.S. envoy Amos Hochstein has been negotiating between Lebanon and Israel to reduce tensions between the two countries.
