Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Bukhari, discussed "political developments in Lebanon and the region," with former Lebanese president Michel Sleiman on Saturday, the Lebanese state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported.
According to a statement published by the NNA, the meeting took place at Bukhari's residence in Yarze and the pair in particular discussed the Lebanese presidential election, which has been deadlocked since Michel Aoun's term in office expired at the end of October 2022 against a backdrop of internal political tensions.
"The historical authenticity of Lebanon's mission is based on the faith of its people in the philosophy of living together," Bukhari said at the end of the meeting.
A political adversary of Aoun, Sleiman was president from 2008 to 2014, before a two-year presidential vacancy preceded Aoun's election.
