BEIRUT — A statement claiming to be "officially from the Lebanese General Security " asking Syrians in Lebanon to temporarily transfer $400 to an alleged General Security (GS) bank account until they return to Syria is fake, a source at GS told L'Orient Today on Friday.

The attempted scam claims that Syrians will receive their $400 back once they have left Lebanon.

"The statement that has been circulating is fake and General Security has not asked any Syrian entering or leaving Lebanon to transfer money to its account," the source said, warning Syrians to beware of such "scams seeking to strip them of their money."
