Fight involving gunfire in Khaldeh

BEIRUT — A fight took place on Saturday in Khaldeh, south of Beirut, and gunfire was heard, according to state-run National News Agency (NNA). Local media outlets also reported that the "Khaldeh highway was blocked in both directions with burning tires."

The reasons behind the fight and the roadblock are still unclear and it is still unknown if the two events are correlated.

According to NNA, a "clash took place between a number of young men near the Rimal supermarket in Khaldeh and gunfire was heard, which prompted the Lebanese Army to immediately intervene and set up checkpoints in the mentioned place."

Simultaneously, local media outlets reported that the "Khaldeh highway was blocked in both directions with burning tires and that the the army was trying to open the road," without providing further details.

Contacted by L'Orient Today, a security source could not confirm that the fight took place.
