Reuters viewed the counter-proposal drawn up by Hamas in response to a framework presented to the group by mediators following the Paris meeting with Israel — which Netanyahu announced his government had rejected, during this evening's press conference.

Israel has been firm on its refusal to completely withdraw forces from Gaza until Hamas is dismantled. Hamas, on the other hand, refuses to agree to any hostage-exchange deal that doesn't include a comprehensive cease-fire and the removal of Israeli military presence in the enclave.

During his press conference this evening, Netanyahu also spoke about the northern front, where Israel and Hezbollah have been engaged in near daily cross-border fighting, Reuters reports. He told reporters that Israel could not tolerate having close to 100,000 evacuees in its own country and its "enemies" knew a solution — either diplomatic or military — would have to be found.

Yesterday, French Foreign Minister Stephane Sejourne warned his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib that Israel might start a war with Lebanon in pursuit of procuring a safe return or residents to the north of the country.

Osama Hamdan, a senior Hamas official based in Beirut, declared this evening, following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's press briefing, that his movement "was ready for all options."

Hamdan said that Netanyahu's rejection of the Hamas cease-fire offer proved Israel's intention to "continue the conflict in the region."

He also confirmed that a Hamas delegation would travel to Cairo tomorrow for talks with Egyptian and Qatari authorities, acting as mediators in the conflict.

Netanyahu predicts "a new normalization with the Arab world once Hamas is defeated," according to a report from The Times of Israel.

"The circle of peace will widen" if Hamas is defeated, he said, following statements by Saudi Arabia declaring that the gulf country would not normalize relations with Israel until the war in Gaza was over and a Palestinian state established.

The military campaign launched by Netanyahu's government after the Oct. 7 Hamas-led attack has so far killed more than 27,700 people in the besieged enclave, according to the latest numbers from the Gaza Health Ministry.

During this evening's press conference, Netanyahu said that "no part of the Gaza Strip will be immune" to Israeli military operations, Reuters reported.

20:28 Beirut Time

"Rafah is where most people are concentrated in Gaza today. If the Israelis attack it, they will therefore complete their destruction of the Gaza Strip. There won’t be a single large inhabitable urban infrastructure left in the strip. It will be carnage forcing an exodus.

This is the objective of Israel, which is working conscientiously to destroy the Gaza Strip. First they told us that Gaza City was the main Hamas base, then they claimed it was Khan Younis, and now Rafah. The aim is clear: To make the Gaza Strip utterly unlivable and uninhabitable, so that the Palestinians leave on their own."

Guillaume Ancel, former French officer and author of Saint-Cyr, à l'école de la grande muette, spoke to L’Orient-Le Jour following Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant's comments last week about the military targeting Rafah, at a time when bombing of the packed southern district had already begun.

🔴 BREAKING: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says "total victory" in Gaza is within reach as he rejected the latest offer from Hamas for a cease-fire to ensure the return of hostages still held in the besieged enclave, Reuters reports.

He said accepting Hamas' "bizarre demands" for a cease-fire would not lead to the return of hostages. "It will only invite another massacre," he said in a televised briefing to journalists.

Netanyahu renewed a pledge to destroy the Palestinian movement, saying there was no alternative for Israel but causing the collapse of Hamas. "The day after is the day after Hamas. All of Hamas," he told a news conference.

Netanyahu also told reporters he had ordered troops to "prepare to operate" in Rafah in southern Gaza, where nearly two million displaced Palestinians have been cornered, fleeing Israeli aggression throughout the rest of the besieged enclave.

It also proposed increasing the required number of days of reserve service and extending the maximum age of soldiers and officers in the reserves.
