BEIRUT — "About three and a half million Captagon tablets, concealed in silicone tubes and intended to be shipped to Nigeria as the initial destination, were seized by Lebanese customs at the port of Beirut," caretaker Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi announced Tuesday on X.

"An important operation led by the Customs Drug Control Division resulted in the seizure," Mawlawi said. One individual involved in this smuggling operation, of Syrian nationality, was arrested, Mawlawi added, affirming that an investigation is underway.

Lebanese authorities have intensified their efforts to combat drug trafficking originating in Lebanon or passing through the country, a practice regularly highlighted by Gulf Arab countries.
