BEIRUT — Caretaker Telecoms Minister Johnny Corm announced Thursday that telecoms companies Alfa and Touch had submitted a "contingency plan" in the event of a war breaking out in Lebanon.

These measures come as Hezbollah and Israel have been exchanging fire since the outbreak of the Hamas-Israel war on Oct. 7. The spillover of the conflict has affected southern Lebanon and has resulted in several casualties in Lebanon so far.

The Lebanese public company Ogero, responsible for managing fixed-line telephony and internet services in Lebanon, Wednesday issued a statement announcing a series of measures "to ensure the continuity of its services in the event of war against Lebanon."

In an interview with "Voice of Lebanon" radio published by state-run National News Agency, Corm said that "Ogero, Alfa and Touch submitted a "contingency plan" in the event of a war breaking out in Lebanon and explained that the objective behind that is not "to frighten people but caution is a must."

Corm added that "the plan includes mobile generators, filling the entire diesel stock, preserving data, a remote network control room, in addition to securing the market's needs for recharge cards, and providing protection around the clock in case of any electronic breach."
