BEIRUT — Goods were held up in customs on Wednesday causing gridlock of trucks at the Port of Beirut due to technical problems, Lebanon's state-run National News Agency reported.
President of the Lebanese Shipping Agent Syndicate Marwan al-Yama stated that the "electronic customs system (NAJM) inside the Port of Beirut has been down for hours, which led to a congestion of trucks loaded with goods, and an interruption of customs clearance transactions for import and export fees."
He hoped that the issue will be solved immediately by the higher customs council, and that the concerned parties avoid an "accumulation of additional delay costs ... and losses to goods."
