BEIRUT — The Civil Defense and Beirut firefighters confirmed on Tuesday that they successfully controlled a fire in a private generator at the Smallville Hotel, located in Beirut's Badaro neighborhood.
The fire broke out around noon due to a malfunction in a hotel's electrical generator. Firefighters responded quickly, limiting the spread of the flames, which they later said only caused material damage.
Recent generator fires in Lebanon have raised concerns about the safety of Beirut residents who rely on these power generators for electricity supply.
According to the Beirut municipality, there are around 400 neighborhood diesel generators operating daily in Beirut, in addition to several hundred building generators, the exact number of which is not known due to the oftentimes informal nature of the business.
