The Lebanese Army announced Wednesday that it had arrested a man allegedly involved in the kidnapping of Saudi national Mashari al-Maitari at the end of May.

Maitari was rescued by the army two days after his abduction following an operation on the Lebanese-Syrian border.

The army said it arrested A.H. in Baalbek on charges of participation in the kidnapping, killing of a local resident, armed robbery, and use of a firearm against the army.

During the arrest, A.H. seized a pistol and attempted to open fire on army soldiers, prompting the soldiers to shoot him. The suspect was wounded and transferred to the hospital.

An investigation has been opened into the incident.

At the beginning of June, the army announced that it had arrested approximately ten people suspected of involvement in the kidnapping.

Following intensive searches in the Bekaa, the army also seized large quantities of weapons and ammunition, as well as equipment used in the manufacture of Captagon.
