Shortly before 8 p.m., Arabic-speaking Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee reported another incident occurred near the border with Lebanon — opposite the Israeli settlement of Metula, but much further east of Boustan. "Numerous suspects approached the security fence this afternoon near Metula, on the border with Lebanon," he wrote. "They threw stones and started a fire near the fence, inside Lebanese territory, and the defense forces fired in the air to drive them away."

The Israeli military told Reuters it used "a non-lethal weapon" to distance "a number of suspects" attempting to damage the security fence with Lebanon to the north.

Over the weekend, Ghajar, a disputed village on the border between Lebanon and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, was absorbed by Israel. The Israeli army constructed a fence on the north side of the village, cutting it off from Lebanon.

UNIFIL spokeswoman Kandice Ardiel told L'Orient-Today that she was "aware of disturbing reports about an incident along the Blue Line," just before 7 p.m.

"We are looking into it. In the meantime, the situation is extremely sensitive. We urge everyone to cease any action that may lead to escalation of any kind," Ardiel added.

Tensions on the southern border flared in recent weeks, culminating in an exchange of fire on July 6.
