BEIRUT — Lebanese Civil Defense volunteers working in Jableh, Syria, Friday rescued a mother and son alive from the rubble of a building, four days after the deadly earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria.

In a video posted on the Civil Defense’s official Facebook page, its members can be seen carrying the mother, giving her water and reassuring her that she had been rescued.

Civil Defense was “able to rescue them and provide them with the necessary first aid,” the post said.

Lebanese rescuers said Wednesday they managed to save a pregnant woman and her daughter in Turkey.

Maher al-Ajouz, Lebanon's chief firefighter, told L'Orient Today Wednesday that another family stuck under a collapsed building in Turkey had also been rescued.

Teams comprised of Lebanese army and Civil Defense personnel and other relief groups have been dispatched to Syria and Turkey to help with the search and rescue operations after the earthquake which, according to latest estimates, has killed more than 22,000 people.
