BEIRUT — Lebanese state-owned telecoms operator Ogero tweeted Thursday that an outage occurred at the Choueifat exchange, south of Beirut, "due to excess voltage on the generator" that runs it, amid a shortage of power supplied by Electricité du Liban.

"This failure led to an interruption of our services in Choueifat and its surroundings. We are carrying out the necessary repairs," Ogero said in a statement reported by the state-run National News Agency.

A similar breakdown occurred in Choueifat earlier in January, for the same reasons.

Shortages of public electricity distribution have also recently led to cuts in running water in several Lebanese regions, including some areas of Beirut, Metn and Saida in South Lebanon.
