BEIRUT — The United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Joanna Wronecka, emphasized on Monday the positive impact that the election of a president will have on Lebanon during a meeting with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the Grand Serail, the premier said on Twitter.

Lebanon has been without a president since the departure of Michel Aoun on Oct. 31 without a successor.

"The election of a president will have a positive influence on everything that is happening in Lebanon, and we hope that this will happen as soon as possible," Wronecka said.

The international community regularly urges Lebanese politicians to respect constitutional deadlines, including that of the presidential election, but after 11 parliamentary electoral sessions, no president has been elected due to lack of consensus between political parties.

Following the latest parliamentary meeting last Thursday, Forces of Change MPs Najat Aoun Saliba and Melhem Khalaf announced a sit-in in Parliament, which is still ongoing, demanding an open session until a president is elected.
