BEIRUT — The Constitutional Council rejected on Thursday two new appeals for the invalidation of May's legislative elections' results in Lebanon, out of a total of 15 files that were submitted to the institution in June.

The first appeal rejected on Thursday is the one filed by Wassef Harakeh, a Shiite candidate from the popular protest, against Fadi Alameh of the Amal Movement in Baabda (Mount Lebanon III). The latter had won over Wassef Harake by around 700 votes.

The second appeal rejected was that of Simon Sfeir, candidate for the Maronite seat in Mount Lebanon I (Jbeil-Kesrouan) against Neemat Frem (independent) and Farid al-Khazen (close to the Marada Movement).

Of the 15 appeals submitted in June and deemed admissible by the Constitutional Council, four have yet to be considered by the Constitutional Council. All the others have so far been rejected.
