BEIRUT — The change to winter time will take place overnight between Saturday, Oct. 29, and Sunday, Oct. 30.
Watches and clocks will need to be set back by one hour at midnight, giving slumberers an additional hour of sleep.
Lebanon will go from GMT + 3 to GMT + 2; at 00:00. Clocks will then need to be set to 23:00.
The time change was instituted in France in 1976 for energy-saving reasons. The aim was to make the activity hours coincide with the sunshine to limit the use of artificial lighting.
Since then, it has been extended to 70 countries around the world, mainly in temperate regions.
