BEIRUT — MP Michel Douaihy (Zghorta) announced Tuesday that he has quit the Forces of Change Bloc "in its current form," the MP said in a tweet.

Lebanon's May 2022 parliamentary election resulted in wins for 13 candidates who had been associated with the Oct. 17, 2019 protests, and who now make up Parliament’s Forces of Change bloc – the only bloc not affiliated with any of the country’s establishment parties.

In Tuesday's announcement, he added that he is "in favor of turning the bloc into a monthly consultative meeting ... with a full freedom margin for all deputies on all issues," adding that "what happened since the May 31 session," when Lebanon's newly elected parliament convened for the first time, "and the bloc’s experience, in particular, must end out of respect for the Lebanese and the people who elected us and out of respect for politics."

Douaihy assured that he will "remain friends" with the Change bloc, where he will continue to "communicate and cooperate" with the MPs, but "for me, there is a stage that has ended."
