BEIRUT —The Anti-Narcotics Division of Lebanese customs managed to seize about 1.8 million Captagon pills hidden in industrial equipment intended to be exported to Tunisia through the port of Beirut, tweeted caretaker Minister of Interior and Municipalities Bassam Mawlawi Thursday.

Mawlawi said that two suspects have been arrested so far in relation to the case.

In September, roughly one million Captagon pills were seized by the Lebanese Army in Baalbeck, less than 24 hours after a similar seizure was announced at the Port of Beirut.

Last January, Lebanon was asked by Gulf countries to crackdown on drug trafficking after numerous smuggling attempts were discovered to be linked to products allegedly from or transited through Lebanon.

These smuggling operations pushed Saudi Arabia to impose a ban on the imports of Lebanese fruits and vegetables.

Mawlawi regularly highlights drug seizures in Lebanon, assuring that all possible efforts will be made to eradicate trafficking.
