BEIRUT — Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah met with Ziad al-Nakhala, the head of Islamic Jihad, the Palestinian organization targeted by Israel in recent raids on Gaza, on Tuesday evening, a spokesperson for Nasrallah’s party told L’Orient Today. The two reportedly discussed the Israeli raids on Gaza in early August.

Here’s what we know:

    • According to the NNA, Nasrallah and Nakhala “assessed the battle” between Israeli forces and the Palestinian organization, which Israel claimed it was targeting in its most recent round of raids on Gaza. They also discussed “political developments in the region,” according to a press release issued by Hezbollah on Wednesday.

    • Nasrallah and Nakhala discussed how Israel’s attacks had come amid recent negotiations between Iran and the US to revive the 2015 Iran nuclear deal.

    • Nasrallah previously stated that his party’s approach to the Lebanese government’s talks with Israel regarding the countries’ maritime border would not be affected by the nuclear deal negotiations between the US and Iran.

    • In early August, the Israeli military conducted what it called a “preemptive operation” against Islamic Jihad in Gaza. At least 49 Palestinians, including leaders of this organization, fighters, civilians and children, were killed in the attacks. Islamic Jihad responded by firing rockets toward Israel.
