BEIRUT — The vehicle registration center in Dekwaneh reopened its doors on Wednesday after two months of closure due to a public sector strike, as Lebanon struggles from an unprecedented economic crisis, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Here’s what we know:
• The central inspection center received a big number of people on its first day open, according to the NNA, which also reported that the number of hours of operation was extended in order to carry out as many requests as possible.
• A spokesperson for the Interior Ministry told L’Orient Today that though the ministry has canceled the mechanical examination of cars for this year, the central inspection does other formalities including registering new cars and driver’s licenses.
• In May, the Interior Ministry suspended the annual mechanical examination of cars, which takes place in regional centers, until further notice. This decision has resulted in the laying off of hundreds of employees who have since demonstrated against this measure.
