BEIRUT — The death toll in a truck crash in Arsal last night has risen to eight people. L'Orient Today's correspondent in the Bekaa reported.
Here's what we know:
• The Lebanese Civil Defense reported yesterday that emergency responders had extracted six dead and four wounded from their vehicles after a semi truck crashed into a number of cars and burst into flames. The death toll later rose to eight.
• Our correspondent reported that the driver of the truck, which was loaded with rocks that the driver was transporting from a quarry in the area to a stone factory owned by his family, lost control of the vehicle.
• The driver, identified as Mohamad Deeb Ghadada, a married man in his 30s, died of his injuries. The driver's son, who was with him in the truck, was initially believed to have died as well, but his death has not been confirmed.
• The other victims included a married couple and their four children along with another relative. The mother who died in the crash was in her ninth month of pregnancy.
• The victims' families were preparing to hold a joint funeral Sunday, our correspondent reported.
