BEIRUT — Lebanese track and field athlete Noureddine Hadid was granted a US visa, after being denied one. He will participate in the World Athletic Championships next week, for the 100-meter race, the athlete told L’Orient Today.
Here’s what we know:
• Hadid’s visa application had been rejected on the spot, when he first applied for it in May, for want of documents to prove he will return to Lebanon.
• The runner has been chosen from among five Lebanese athletes who will now be able to compete at the World Athletic Championships for the 100-meter race, which takes place every other year, and is scheduled this year from July 15 until July 24 in Eugene, Oregon, USA.
• He has already represented Lebanon at the Tokyo Olympics, in addition to competing in competitions in Korea, China, and Europe. He said he never had a problem receiving a visa from any of those countries.
• A sergeant with the Lebanese Army, Hadid told L’Orient Today earlier that he will also be among the four other Lebanese athletes competing in the Islamic Games in Turkey this August.
