BEIRUT — The Lebanese army arrested a suspected drug dealer Thursday evening in Fanar, north of Beirut, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Here’s what we know:
• According to an army statement, the suspect, who is accused of drug trafficking and discharging firearms, opened fire on the army during a raid on his house and set fire to his home.
• The statement did not report any injuries.
• Drugs were seized during the raid and an investigation was opened.
• Fanar had been the base of operations of another figure currently wanted by the army, nicknamed “Abou Sallé,” who is accused of car theft, weapons and drug trafficking.
• Abou Sallé later re-settled in the al-Sharawné district of Baalbeck. A military operation in that district two weeks ago left one soldier dead and several wounded.
