BEIRUT — Caretaker Public Works Minister Ali Hamieh announced Wednesday an international call for tenders to construct a building to the east of the Beirut international airport to provide “services that are not offered in the current [airport] building.” He added that the project is expected “to create hundreds of jobs.”
Here’s what we know:
• Hamieh explained, during a joint press conference with caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati at the airport, that “the cost of the new project will amount to $70 million.”
• The project aims at improving the services already found in “terminal 1,” the already existing building, and provide new services in the yet-to-be-built “terminal 2,” Hamieh said.
• The new terminal will be designated for Hajj, Umrah and Ziyarah charter flights, as well as low budget airlines, he added, but offered no further details about the project.
