BEIRUT — More than 13 kilograms of hashish hidden in a wooden cabinet that was believed to have been destined for a European country were seized close to the Beirut international airport area on May 23 by the Internal Security Forces, the ISF said on Tuesday.
Here’s what we know:
• In a statement, the ISF said they arrested two people on May 23 near the airport highway area and seized the cupboard in their possession which amounted to 13.25 kg of hashish. An investigation has been opened, the ISF added.
• Lebanon has intensified its fight against drug trafficking after Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states demanded it crack down on the illegal activity. At the end of May, a Saudi national holding Kuwaiti security identification papers was arrested at the Beirut airport after being suspected of wanting to transport 18.3 kg of captagon to Kuwait.
