BEIRUT — Caretaker Culture Minister Mohammad Mortada inaugurated Saturday at the Louvre museum in Paris an exhibition of recently uncovered archeological pieces found in Jbeil, the state-run National News Agency reported.
Here’s what we know:
• The ancient objects were found during a joint mission of the General Directorate of Antiquities and the Louvre Museum. The exhibition is scheduled to continue until Sept. 11 in the Lebanese pavilion.
• On the sidelines of the ceremony, Mortada discussed the development of bilateral relations between Beirut and Paris with an official from the museum.
• On Wednesday, the French ambassador to Lebanon Anne Grillo had called on Lebanese enthusiasts to visit the Louvre. “To you Lebanese friends and Byblos enthusiasts, I invite you to see at the Louvre Museum objects from the latest Franco-Lebanese archaeological excavations that have uncovered an exceptional Bronze Age necropolis,” she tweeted, adding that her country was “proud to contribute to the development of the Lebanese heritage.”
