BEIRUT — The Beirut governorate announced Sunday the launch of an initiative to remove partisan, political and sectarian slogans from the city, following last Sunday’s parliamentary elections.
Here’s what we know:
• Starting the end of next week, members of the Fire Brigade and City Guard, with support from the hygiene department, will remove “slogans, pictures, flags and advertisements” scattered around the capital, “especially those belonging to the candidates for the parliamentary elections,” according to the governorate’s press release given to the state-run National News Agency.
• A week after the elections, the city remains awash in an even larger amount than normal of party flags and pictures of candidates.
