BEIRUT — Two fishermen died Thursday night in the village of Saksakieh in north Saida, while preparing dynamite sticks for fishing, according to our correspondent in the area.
Here’s what we know:
• The dynamites exploded while the two brothers of the Siblini family were preparing them before heading out to the sea.
• The blast was heard across the area. The victims were members of the Amal movement and al-Rissala scouts, according to our correspondent.
• The security forces have opened an investigation on the circumstances of the tragedy.
• Fishing with dynamite and narrow nets that are harmful for fish stocks. The Agriculture Ministry in Lebanon bans dynamite fishing.
• The Lebanese Army tends to cease fishermen who fish with dynamite and make them sign a pledge not to use dynamite in their practice.
