BEIRUT — The Military Court of Cassation, presided over by Judge Sakr Sakr, confirmed Judge Fadi Sawwan’s release on bail of alleged Lebanese Forces affiliate Nassim Touma, who has been in custody for months in connection to the Oct. 14, 2021, Tayyouneh clashes, a source close to the case told L’Orient Today.

Here’s what we know:

   • Touma’s release follows those of Nabil Daoud and Elias Nakhleh, who had been held as part of the same investigation. Of the fifteen individuals reputedly close to the LF were detained after the clashes in cases filed by the government commissioner to the military tribunal, only Georges Touma remains behind bars.

    • The Tayyouneh clashes, pitting Hezbollah and Amal affiliated demonstrators who had been demanding a change of leadership into the Aug. 4, 2020, Beirut port blast investigation and alleged Lebanese Forces sympathizers, left seven dead and dozens wounded.
