BEIRUT — The Lebanese Army has been deployed since Tuesday evening in the localities of Rifaieh and in the Nejmeh Square area in Tripoli after armed clashes broke out between rival families, our correspondent in the city reported Wednesday.
Here’s what we know:
• Young individuals from rival families exchanged fire on Tuesday in the Hay al-Barraniyyeh neighborhood, injuring several people.
• On Monday evening, separate clashes between rival families left two dead and several wounded in the northern capital.
• A calm atmosphere reigned Wednesday morning in the streets of Tripoli, but some schools that were at close proximity to the incident refrained from opening, fearing that renewed clashes would put students at risk.
