ELECTIONS 2022

Electoral list supported by National Bloc announced in Mount Lebanon III

BEIRUT — A list of candidates named "forces of change," which includes opposition politicians and is backed by the National Bloc party, was announced Monday in the constituency of Mount Lebanon III (Baabda) for the upcoming May 15 parliamentary elections.

Here’s what we know:

    • This list includes the following candidates: Michel Helou, Abir Naji, Ziad Akl, Robert Khalifeh and Wassef Harakeh. It is supported by, in addition to the National Bloc, the groups Tahalof Watani, Marsad and Hirak Metn el-Aala.

    • It is still unknown which list Kataeb party head Samy Gemayel intends to support.

    • The constituency hosts three Maronite seats, two Shiite and one Druze.

    • The constituency has been a Free Patriotic Movement stronghold, and includes the presence of supporters of Amal and Hezbollah, who are allied with FPM. In the 2018 parliamentary elections, the FPM lost a seat to the Lebanese Forces. In these elections, many believe FPM will lose another seat due to a decline in its popularity and a split in the party following MP Hekmat Dib’s resignation.
