Brothers of firefighters killed in the Beirut port blast questioned by State Security

BEIRUT — Peter Bou Saab and William Noun, brothers of firefighters and Beirut blast victims Joe Bou Saab and Joe Noun, were questioned on Friday by State Security in Dekwaneh with lawyer Ralph Tannous. The two were summoned for questioning in relation to spray-painting the Justice Minister’s house entrance, according to state-run National News Agency.

Here’s what we know:

    • The NNA quoted Noun as saying on Friday, before the investigation, that “the innocent are not afraid of investigations,” adding that “politicians who have arrest warrants for the port explosion file are moving” freely, although the “law should be applied to everyone without exceptions.”

    • Noun and Bou Saab, along with a group, allegedly spray-painted “Who killed these people?” followed by a list of names of the victims of the explosion on the entrance walls and door of the Justice Minister’s house, according to a video posted on social media on Wednesday.

    • On Wednesday, at a cabinet meeting chaired by Najib Mikati, the justice minister denounced the spray painting incident calling it “unacceptable.” “The powers of the Minister of Justice are limited, we must not mix everything,” he added.

    • Victims’ families protest regularly against the obstruction of the investigation into the explosion. Judge Tarek Bitar’s investigation has repeatedly been stalled due to appeals filed against him by politicians he has sought to prosecute.
