BEIRUT — Teams of environmental activists, shepherds and volunteers delivered Tuesday morning milk and medicine to three shepherds stuck with a herd of 200 goats in the snow near al-Qatr in Mishmish, Akkar since Monday, according to our correspondent in the area. Around 60 goats have died from the cold and lack of food.
Here’s what we know:
• A team of environmental activists led by Gilbert Moukheiber, head of 33 North, a sustainable and adventure tourism boutique operator, along with a group of shepherds from the town of Mishmish and volunteers from the Akkar Darb Association, have gone to deliver milk and medicine secured by the Agriculture Department in Akkar in cooperation with the Mada Association, to the shepherds stranded with their herd of goats.
• They also provided milk and medicine for young goats to avoid further deaths.
• The Akkar Darb Association on Monday appealed to authorities to intervene quickly to rescue the three shepherds and their herd. The shepherds also appealed to the Lebanese Air Force and anyone else who could secure basic needs for them.
