Health minister receives donated drugs from Tunisian firm

BEIRUT – Health Minister Firass Abiad received cancer medicines and drugs for chronic diseases from Medis pharmaceutical laboratories based in Tunisia. The donations arrived at Rafik Hariri University Hospital Thursday morning in the presence of Tunisian Ambassador to Lebanon Yuari Al-Imam, and the director-general of Medis in the Middle East, Alan Owais.

Here's what we know:

    • Abiad said that his ministry has accepted Medis’ donations of “cancer medicines, medicines for chronic diseases and medicines used in hospitals.” He added that “this donation came at a very suitable time to compensate for the shortage of medicines” in Lebanon.

    • He continued that the Arab countries, especially Tunisia, have “high human and industrial competencies, and it is time for cooperation to take place between Arab countries to benefit from these skills.”

    • This morning the minister inaugurated a warehouse that stores medicines in Karantina, after it was previously damaged by the Beirut port explosion.
