BEIRUT — State telecommunications provider Ogero announced a service outage in the Ras Beirut area on Sunday night due to the overloading of its generators, the company tweeted.

Here’s what we know:

    • The tweet added that Ogero’s teams are “working to fix the malfunction as quickly as possible.” However, no tweet indicating that the service outage has been fixed has been posted since.

    • In January, Ogero announced service outages across swathes of Beirut due to diesel shortages. Over the weekend, fears of renewed fuel shortages rose among residents of Beirut and its outskirts prompting people to queue in long lines at gas stations.

    • Lebanon’s telecommunications companies struggle to maintain viable services in the face of an economic crisis in which fuel and operational costs have risen dramatically.
