BEIRUT — Students at Akkar’s public sector schools, vocational and technical colleges organized sit-ins Wednesday morning to protest how the country’s economic crisis is affecting their education, L’Orient Today’s correspondent in North Lebanon reported.

Here’s what we know:

•  Students are demonstrating against what they consider the education ministry’s "arbitrary decisions" to increase fees required to take official exams.

•  “How are our parents going to provide the sum of 700,000 Lebanese lira to help us pass the exams?” one student asked. The students vowed that their movements would continue across Lebanon.

•  Regular protests have been held denouncing additional schools and higher education fees, both in the public and private sectors.
