BEIRUT — The Chiyah telecommunications station went down Wednesday morning, state-owned telecom company Ogero announced on its Twitter account.

Here’s what we know:

•  “An outage was reported in the Chiyah plant due to pressure on the generators, leading to the shutdown of our services in this area,” said Ogero.

•  Meanwhile in Halba, in north Lebanon’s Akkar region, Ogero employees this morning demonstrated against the devaluation of their wages and deteriorating working conditions.

•  Telecom service has suffered in Lebanon recently due to the country’s unprecedented economic crisis and the fuel (and therefore electricity) shortages telecom companies have suffered. Their private generators also become under strain due to scant coverage from the state electricity utility.

•  In January, a swathe of Beirut lost internet service for several hours when telecom companies suffered a power outage.
