BEIRUT — A digital platform to facilitate job seeking for Lebanese workers is now available, Labor Minister Mustafa Bayram announced during a press conference on Thursday.

Here’s what we know:

    • The platform, available on the ministry’s website and as a mobile application, connects job seekers to job offers and serves what Bayram described as “the prime part of the [Labor] Ministry’s mission, facilitating the employment of Lebanese workers.” The labor minister said that the platform prevents companies seeking to hire Lebanese employees from “making excuses” about the unavailability of workers.

    • The web version of the platform allows job seekers to register by entering their name, area of residence, cellular number and email, uploading a CV and specifying the type of work they’re applying for and their years of experience. Users also have the option of seeing a list of available job offers and to search through them (however, when L’Orient Today attempted to use the search feature on Thursday afternoon, it did not seem to be working). The job listings include the company name and job title, the area of work and salary, and a description of the position. The job application process from a listing is straightforward. When applying for a job, such as sous chef in a Chinese restaurant, users are prompted to enter their full name, phone number and resume.

    • Users have the option to choose from a wide variety of jobs, such as “BOBCAT driver, supermarket employee, bakery employee, dairy worker, cartographer, TV host, deputy manager, wholesaler, pharmacist, engineer, doctor.”

    • Bayram said that, after an initial registration period of around two months, there are currently over 1,000registered Lebanese job seekers and over 100 companies registered.

    • The platform’s launch also serves as a tool to “collect data that is vital for the Labor Ministry,” Bayram said, “and for the digitization of public administration that would connect different services and ministries.” Bayram said that further discussions of digital administration would take place next week with Administrative Development Minister Najla Riachi.
