Abiad says Health Ministry's MOPHPASS platform was hacked

BEIRUT – Health Minister Firass Abiad called for an investigation Friday into a hacking incident carried out against the Health Ministry’s MOPHPASS platform, responsible for monitoring the health of incoming visitors to Lebanon related to COVID-19.

Here’s what we know:

    • In a statement, Abiad said he also called for an “urgent meeting” with Potech Consulting, the company he said is responsible for the platform’s cyber security.

    • Abiad also said that he communicated with security forces the need to “undergo additional investigations to determine responsibility,” adding “We repeat what we agreed on previously regarding the tightening of measures to ensure no hacking be done even from our employees.”

    • Earlier today, Interior Minister Bassam Mawlawi said in a statement that he received a call from Public Works Minister Ali Hamieh informing him of “a leak of some personal information of his on the health ministry platform.” Mawlawi also said he assigned the Internal Security Forces to investigate the matter.

    • The interior minister added that he had previously sent a letter to the Health Ministry to “rethink its measures on the [MOPHPASS] platform and to implement cyber security standards.”
