BEIRUT – Egyptian Ambassador to Lebanon Yasser Alawi announced during a meeting in Ain el-Tine with Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri Friday that a donation of 487 tons of food, medicine and other “basic necessities” is on its way to Lebanon as of this morning.
Here’s what we know:
• "A new shipment left this morning from the port of Damietta to Lebanon, a brother country," said Alawi. "It is a gesture ordered by President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi to help the government and the Lebanese people" he added.
• The Egyptian ambassador said the shipment contains 265 tons of medicines, 122 tons of food products and 100 tons of other basic necessities.
• Since Lebanon’s economic crisis began to take shape in 2019, Cairo has sent several shipments of food and medical aid to Beirut.
