BEIRUT — Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea announced on Friday two candidacies for May's parliamentary elections, Sethrida Geagea, his wife, and Joseph Ishac, for the Maronite seats in Bsharri, the party's major stronghold.
Here’s what we know:
• During a press conference, Geagea stressed that Bsharri represents “the model of the effectiveness of Lebanese Forces action. We were a great success because of the trust [the people] placed in us.”
• "I am sure that the residents [of Bsharri] want a strong, sovereign, free and independent Lebanon, where there are no mini-states or weapons other than those of the Lebanese army,” said Geagea. “They do not want Lebanon drowned in regional axes, and in wars that do not concern it.”
• Bsharri is part of the constituency of North Lebanon III, which also includes Zgharta, a stronghold for Marada, and Batroun, the stronghold of the Free Patriotic Movement.
