BEIRUT – Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea on Saturday decreed the “general mobilization” of his party in preparation for the parliamentary elections, scheduled for May 15, 2022.

Here’s what we know:

    • During a meeting Saturday of the LF’s central council, Geagea called for the launch of the party’s electoral machine as well as the mobilization of the LF’s other mechanisms ahead of the legislative vote set for this spring, the NNA reported.

    • Geagea dubbed the upcoming elections as a “battle to save Lebanon” and a battle against “the dire reality that Hezbollah’s alliance with the Free Patriotic Movement and those with them have wrought.”

    • LF ministers have served alongside those from the FPM and Hezbollah in three cabinets headed by former PM Saad Hariri from 2009 to 2011 and 2016 to 2019.  Since the Oct. 17, 2019 protests against Lebanon's political class, the LF has attempted to capitalize on anti-establishment sentiment in the country.
